Elements 3.0 Plus

Level 2 Plus

Lesson 5

The Toolbox

Elements has a number of tools that you can use to work on your image.

Introduction

In this lesson we will introduce the various editing tools in Elements. These tools are kept in a “Toolbox”. The tools are grouped logically. We will cover the tools in each group. Detailed functions of each tool will be covered in subsequent lessons.

Note:

When we wish to work on an image, we have a choice between:

1.      Quick Edit

2.      Standard Edit

We see Standard Edit applying to Level 2 Plus users. This type of editing is not as quick, automated and easy as the “Quick Edit”. But, Standard Edit is far more powerful and has may more functions

Step #1: Standard Edit

We can select an image to work on from the Organizer. Then we must select our edit mode.

From the “Icon Menu”, select:

[ Edit ]

[ Go to Standard Edit ]

Step #2: The Toolbox

In Elements 3, the “Toolbox” is anchored to the left side of the “Edit Window”.

The “Toolbox” is laid out in a single straight line down the left side of the screen.

The tools in the “Toolbox” are logically organized into groups. We will list the tools that are in each group.

Some of the Tool Icons in the “Toolbox” have a black triangle in the bottom right corner of the Tool Icon. This means that there is more than one tool under that Icon

Additional tools are accessed by using the right mouse button.

Note:

The Keyboard shortcut is indicated in brackets after each tool.

We will not give you details of the function of each tool in this lesson. The function of the tools will be dealt with individually in subsequent lessons.

Step #3: Group #1

1. Move Tool (M)

2. Zoom Tool (Z)

3. Hand Tool (H)

 4. Eyedropper Tool (I)

Step #4: Group #2
