Lesson 3 |
In this lesson, you will learn how
to view an image at different zoom
levels. |
Introduction |
In the course of editing an image,
you will always need to magnify part
of an image to work on small
details, reduce the view size to see
the entire image, or view the image
at actual pixel size.
The following lesson will show you
how to view an image at different
zoom levels, and give you some
information about the status bar
displays. |
Step #1: |
·
Open a file approximately 1MB in
size.
·
Rest the pointer on the lower right
corner of the document window. The
pointer will change to a double
arrow.
·
Hold down the mouse button and drag
the corner diagonally downward to
enlarge the document window. |
As you enlarge the document window,
some numbers will appear at the
bottom border of the window.
The area where the numbers are
displayed is called the “Status
bar”. |
Step #2: |
The percentage on the left side of
the Status bar represents the zoom
level of the active image.
·
Click the small triangle on the
right hand side of the Status bar. |
Step #3: |
A pop-up menu appears.
·
Choose Show > Document Sizes.
With Document Sizes chosen, the
number before the slash on the right
side of the Status bar represents
the file size of the active image.
The number after the slash indicates
the file’s approximate size,
including layers and channels.
Since this image is flattened, with
no channels and contains only a
background; the numbers before and
after the slash are the same. |
Step #4: |
From the “Toolbox”:
·
Look for the “Annotation,
Measuring, and Navigation Tools”.
·
Select the [ Zoom ] tool. |
Step #5: |
·
Position the [ Zoom ] tool
over the dark magenta balloon and
click once. |
The image will enlarge to the next
preset percentage level, which is
100%. |
Step #6: |
·
Click on the dark magenta balloon
again with the [Zoom ] tool. |
The image will enlarge to the next
preset percentage level, which is
200%. |
Step #7: |
·
Hold down the Alt key on the
keyboard so that the Zoom tool
pointer appears with a minus sign
(-) in the center of the magnifying
glass.
·
Click on the dark magenta balloon
again. |
Step #8: |
Now, the view zooms out to a lower
preset magnification, which is 100%.
·
Release the Alt key.
Note:
the preset increments are 50%, to
66.67%, to 100%, to 200%, to 300%,
etc... |
Step #9: |
Using the [ Zoom ] tool:
·
Draw a rectangle to enclose the
clown’s head by dragging the mouse. |
The image will enlarge so that the
clown’s head fills the document
window.
The zoom level also changes to
227.68%. |
Step #10: |
From the “Toolbox”:
·
Look for the “Annotation,
Measuring, and Navigation Tools”.
·
Select the [ Hand ] tool. |
Step #11: |
·
Using the [ Hand ] tool, you
can drag the mouse to pan over the
image. This will allow you to find
the area that you want to look at. |
