Level 2 Plus |

Lesson 4
Getting
a Photo |
If you have not set up your card
reader yet, go to Lesson 3.
If the Welcome Screen is still
present, go to Step #1.
If the Welcome Screen does not
appear when you start the program,
go to Step #2. |
Introduction |
In this lesson, Step #1 will help
you make sure that you have the
Organizer active and not the Welcome
Window or the Editor.
Steps #2-7 will assist you in
downloading your images from the
card reader.
Steps #8-11 will help you to isolate
the photo that you wish to work on.
Subsequent lessons will show you how
to fix, print or email the selected
photo. |
Step #0: |
If you have not
set up your card reader, go to:
Lesson #3 – “How to Set Up your
Memory Card”. |
Step #1: Start Up |
If you have set up your Card Reader
in Lesson #3, the “Welcome
Screen” should not
appear. You can move onto Step #2.
If, for any reason, the “Welcome
Screen” still appears when you
start the program, you will have to
turn that off.
If you look at the bottom left of
the “Welcome Screen”, it
should read: “Start Up In”
with a drop down menu beside it.
Click on the “Drop Down Menu”. |
Step #1a: No Welcome |
The first option is:
“Welcome Screen”
We don’t want this. |
Step #1b: No Editor |
The second option is:
“Editor”
We don’t want this. |
Step #1c: Yes Organizer |
The third option is:
“Organizer”
We want this, so click
on:
[ Organizer ] |
Step #2: The Organizer |
The Organizer is new for Elements
3.0. It was not present in Elements
2.
It is a major step forward and the
way of the future for Elements.
Elements previously used the
“File Browser”. You can still
use this in Elements 3.0, but we do
not advise it. |
Note: Why Not The File Browser |
If you have used previous versions
of Elements and have become
comfortable with the “File
Browser”, you may be reluctant
to leave it for the Organizer.
On the right side of this screen, we
have listed the benefits of the
Organizer over the “File Browser”
for anyone who is interested. |
1.
Adobe has stopped improving
the “File Browser” and will
likely discontinue it in future
versions of Elements.
2.
Organizer can give you
instant access to all your photos
without having to search through
CDs.
3.
Organizer will help you put
together slide shows, copy images
onto DVDs & CDs, and post photos on
websites.
4.
It will automatically upgrade
from Photoshop Album.
5.
Organizer is more powerful
and more full-featured than File
Browser.
6.
If you are considering a
future upgrade to Photoshop CS2, the
“File Browser” has been
replaced by Adobe Bridge |
Step #3:
Memory Card |
When you insert your memory card to
download your images, Windows
tries to help us.
We don’t want Windows
to help us.
Therefore, when this screen appears,
click on:
[ Cancel ] |
Step #4:
Photo Downloader |
Once your Memory Card Reader is set
up, and you place your memory card
in the card reader…
The Adobe Photo Downloader will
begin immediately.
Click on:
[ Get Photos ] |
Step #5:
Copying Photos |
The program will then retrieve all
the new photos off your memory card.
These will be added to the “Photo
Well”. |
Step #6:
No Duplicates |
If you try to download photos that
are duplicates of ones already in
the “Photo Well”, you will
receive the following message. |
1q |
Step #7:
Only New Photos |
Your “Photo Well” will now
contain only the images that were
just downloaded from your memory
card. |
Step #8:
Not Show All |
The “Adobe Album” program
only showed you the last
images downloaded in the “Photo
Well”. You had to press the
“Show All” button to see all of
your images.
In “Elements3.0”,
all the images appear in
the “Photo Well”. They are
grouped by date.
To see photos that were downloaded
on a different date, just select the
date from the “Date Selector Bar”
located above the “Photo Well”
or use the “Scroll Bars”
to the right of the images to move
to any image taken on any date. |
Step #9:
Thumbnail Size |
Use the “Thumbnails Views”
slider at the bottom right of the
screen to resize the images in the
“Photo Well” as desired.
Step #9a:
Small Size |
Here we have selected small
thumbnails by sliding the
slider to the left.
We see many images, but not much
detail. |
Step #9b: Mid
Size |
Here we have selected midsized
thumbnails by sliding the
slider to the middle of the range.
We see fewer images but more detail. |
Step #9c:
Large Size |
Here we have selected large
thumbnails by sliding the
slider to the right.
We see very few images, but much
more detail. |
Step #10:
Scroll Bar |
Use the “Scroll Bar” on the
right side of the “Photo Well”
to move through all the images in
the “Photo Well”. |
Step #11:
Select Image |
When you find the photo that you
want in the “Photo Well”,
click on it.
A blue box will appear around this
image to indicate that you have
selected it to work on. |
Step #12:
Next Step |
Now that you have selected a photo
to work on, you can move ahead to
Lesson #5 – “Fixing a Photo”. |
Summary |
In this lesson, Step #1 helped you
make sure that you have the
Organizer active rather than the
Welcome Window or the Editor.
Steps #2-7 assisted you in
downloading your images from the
card reader.
Steps #8-11 helped you to isolate
the photo that you wish to work on.
Subsequent lessons will show you how
to fix, print or email the selected
photo. |
