Lesson 8
Fixing
a Photo - Red Eye
The “Quick Fix” screen can be
used to solve many common problems.
Red eye is a major problem in flash
photography. |
Introduction |
In this lesson we will learn how to
zoom in on the eyes in our images.
We will outline two easy methods to
correct red eye. |
Step #1: Select Photo |
From the “Photo Well”, click
on the image that you want to work
on.
A blue border will highlight the
selected image. |
Step #2: Quick Fix |
From the Main menu, click on:
[ Edit ]
Then click on:
[ Go to Quick Fix… ] |
Step #3:
Before & After |
Once you enter the “Quick Fix”
screen, set the “Before & After”
view to “Portrait”.
Note:
This step was illustrated in Lesson
#5. |
Step #4:
Rotate
If Needed |
“Rotate” to correct the
orientation if necessary.
Note:
This step was illustrated in Lesson
#5. |
Step #5:
Actual Pixels |
Here we do not want to
see the entire
“Before & After” images.
We want to be able to zoom in
on the eyes to judge our results.
Click on:
[ Actual Pixels ] |
Step #6a:
Zoom Tool |
Select the “Zoom Tool” by
clicking on:
[ Magnifying Glass ]
Then we want to magnify, so click on
the “+
Magnifier”:
[
+
] |
Step #6b:
Zoom Amount |
Beside the “Zoom Panel”,
click on:
[ Arrow ]
Then slide the slider
to enlarge the images as desired. |
Step #7a:
Moving
on the Image |
Now we wish to move around the
image, with our mouse cursor, to
position the eyes in our “Before
& After” panes.
To accomplish this, click on the:
[ Hand Tool ] |
Step #7b:
In Position |
Here we have shown both eyes in
position for red eye removal.
We are not really removing the eyes,
so it should probably be called red
eye conversion. |
Step #8: Red
Eye Tool |
Select on the:
[ Red Eye Correction Tool ] |
Step #9a:Red
Eye
Removal Method #1 |
With the “Red Eye Removal Tool”
selected, click once directly on a
red area of the pupil.
The red will be replaced with a
neutral color. |
Step #9b:
Adjust Size |
We can now fine-tune the size of the
pupil as shown. |
Step #9c:
Adjust
Darkness |
We can now fine-tune the darkness of
the pupil as shown. |
Step #10:
Red Eye
Removal Method #2 |
With the “Red Eye Removal Tool”
selected, drag it over one red eye
area so there is a square selection
around the entire eye.
The red will be replaced with
neutral color as shown.
We can now fine-tune the size and
darkness of the pupil the same way
we did in Steps #9b and #9c. |
Step #11:
The Results |
You can now judge the results in the
“Before & After” panes. |
Step #12:
Exit & Save |
Now we should exit the “Quick
Fix” screen and save the changes
to our image.
The methods for Exiting & Saving
were outlined in Lessons #5 & #6.
Remember, these changes only occur
on a copy of the original, not on
the original itself. Both the
original and the copy will appear in
the “Photo Well” as shown
here.
