Lesson 5

Quick Fix - Getting Started

The Basic Level of the Elements program gives you some powerful, easy to use ways to improve and correct your images.

This lesson and the next 4 lessons will outline basic techniques of fixing up your images.

Introduction

In this lesson we will become familiar with the “Quick Fix” screen. We will illustrate how to rotate images if necessary, and you will learn to set up “Before & After” images to help you judge changes.

Step #1: Select Photo

From the “Photo Well”, click on the image that you wish to work on.

A blue border will highlight the selected image.

Step #2: Quick Fix
From the Main menu, click on:

[ Edit ]

Then click on:

[ Go to Quick Fix… ]

Step #3: Warning

This warning just tells you that you are going to be making some changes.

Since that is what we want to do, ignore the warning by clicking on:

[ OK ]

Step #4: Fix Screen

Now the “Quick Fix” screen will appear.

This screen allows us to make any changes we wish.
Step #5a: Before / After
Landscape

The “View” selector is under the bottom left corner of your image.

If you click on the drop down arrow, you can select to see the “Before & After” images in the “Landscape” view.

Step #5b: Landscape

The result will appear as shown, with the “Before” image shown on top and the “After” correction image shown underneath.

We do not recommend this view.
Step #5c: Before / After
Portrait

The “View” selector is under the bottom left corner of your image.

If you click on the drop down arrow, you can select to see the “Before & After” images in the “Portrait” view.

Step #5d: Portrait

The result will appear as shown, with the “Before” image shown on top and the “After” correction image shown on the right.

We do recommend this view.

Step #6a: Fit On Screen

We recommend that you click on:

[ Fit On Screen ]
Step #6b: Entire Image

This will allow you to see the entirety of the “Before” and “After” images.

Step #7a: Rotate

If your image was taken in the vertical orientation, your image will appear to be lying on its’ side.

It is easier to judge your corrections if you rotate the image as shown.

Step #7b: Rotated

The “Before” and “After” images are shown rotated.

Summary

In this lesson we became familiar with the “Quick Fix” screen. We illustrated how to rotate images when necessary, and showed you how to set up “Before & After” images to help you judge your changes.
