Printing Photos

After images have been corrected in the fix image function, you may wish to print them out.

Introduction

In this lesson, we will cover printing images. You will learn how to select photo(s) to print.  We will show you how to select a layout type (individual, contact sheet, or picture package), and set the properties of the printer.

Step #0a: Confirm Settings  

You must make sure that you will be printing in the units of measure that apply to your situation.

From the Main menu, click on:

[ Edit ]

From the drop down menu, click on:

[ Preferences ]

From the next drop down menu, click on:

[ Units & Rulers ]

Step #0b: Set to Inches  
Next to “Print Sizes, select:

[ Inches ]

Step #1: Select Photo

The first step in printing is to select one or more photos to print.

This choice is made from the “Photo Well”.

Step #1a: Print One Photo

 

Choose one photo in the “Photo Well”.

Just “Click” on it.

A blue border will appear around it to indicate that it has been selected.

Step #1b: Print Several  

Choose any of the photos that you wish to print in this printing session from the “Photo Well”.

To select any individual photo

Just “Ctrl + Click” on each one.

A blue border will appear around the photos that you have selected by holding down the [Ctrl] key to indicate that they have been selected.

Notes:

1.  You can deselect any images that you have selected in this manner by using “Ctrl + Click” on any images that you wish to deselect.

2.  The images don’t need to be next to each other in order to be selected.

Step #2: The Print Function  

You must inform the program that you wish to print.

From the “Icon Menu”, select:

[ Print ]

Step #3: The Print Screen  

When this choice is made, the “Print Screen” will appear as shown.

Step #4: Select Printer  

Our first setting you will choose on this screen will be to select your photo printer from the drop down list next to:

[ Select Printer ]

Step #5: Type of Print Layout  

There are 3 possible Print Layouts. You must select one to use for a given printing session.

They are:

1. Individual Print

2. Contact Sheet

3. Picture Package

Which To Select:

1. Individual Print: use this to print one photo.

2. Contact Sheet: use this to print small prints                                                  of several different images on the same page in columns & rows.

3. Picture Package: use this to print several copies of the same image on one page.

The images which will be used in the contact sheet are displayed in the left preview pane.

The resulting printout is shown in the preview pane on the right side.

Step #8: Picture Package Layout Example

In this example the following were selected:

Layout:

Picture Package

Format:

(1) 5” x 7”

(2) 2.5” x 3.5”

(4) 2” x 2.5”

The image which will be used is shown in the left preview pane.

The resulting printout is shown in the preview pane on the right side.

Step #9: Set Up Page
& Printer

Now we must confirm the printer that you selected in Step #4. This is your photo quality printer.

We will set the properties of the chosen printer. Elements needs to know the type of paper you will be using, as well as the printer settings that you wish to use.

Step #9a: Page Setup  

Start printer setup by clicking the button:

[ Page Setup ]

Step #9b: Page Setup  

The “Page Setup” screen will appear. On this screen, click the button:

[ Printer ]
Step #9c: Select Printer  

1. Your photo printer should be highlighted, since you selected it in step #4.

2. Next we will set the properties for the printer. Click the button:

[ Properties ]
Step #9d: Set Properties  

Every printer will have a unique screen for the “Printer Properties”.

The important things to set are:

Paper Type:          e.g. Glossy

Print Resolution: e.g. 1440

Paper size:           e.g. Letter

Orientation:           e.g. Portrait

We recommend that you set your printer to give you a preview prior to printing. This may help you avoid printing incorrectly.

When you are done, click on:

[ OK ]

Step #9e: Confirm Printer  

Once you have done this, you will return to the “Page Setup” screen.

You’ve already set the appropriate printer, so just click on:

[ OK ]
Step #9f: Final Printer OK  

Finally check that you have the “Orientation” and “Paper Size” correct.

Then click on:

[ OK ]
Step #10: Printing, Finally  

If you are happy with all the settings, click on:

[ Print ]

Summary

In this lesson, we covered the printing. We showed you how to select photo(s) to print. We then showed you how to select a layout type (individual, contact sheet, or picture package). Finally, we showed you how to set the properties of the printer, and printed.
