Fixing Photos

Cropping

The most important difference between Album Starter & Album Full Version relates to fixing images.

The Starter Version only allows Automatic Fixes.

The Full Version provides Automatic Fixes with the option of Manual Override.

Introduction

This lesson will deal with cropping your image to the size and shape desired.

Step #1: Select a Photo

To fix a photo, you have to select the photo that you want to work on from the “Photo Well”.

This is done by clicking on the photo as shown.

Step #2: Fix

The next step is to use the “Icon Menu” & click on:

[ Fix ]

Step #3: Fix Photo

From the drop down menu, select:

[ Fix Photo ]

Step #4: Prepare The Image

You will now come to the “Fix Screen”.

You should set up the “Before & After Views” and rotate the image if necessary.

You will also have to set the screen up so you can zoom in & out on your image.

This was covered in Lesson #5
Note: Cropping

Often, after images are captured by a digital camera, we want to crop out some of the photo so the main subject stands out effectively.

“Crop” is a tool that allows us to do this.

Step #5: Crop Example

Press the button  labeled:

[ Crop ]

You will notice a box  with moving lines (often called marching ants) will show up on top of our image

You can move this box of “Marching Ants” around the image by dragging it with the left mouse button held down

You can resize this box on the image by grabbing any corner of the white box with the left mouse button held down & dragging to the desired size

Step #6: Any Size
(No Restriction)

There are times when we wish to crop the image to any shape that we desire – whatever we deem makes for the best photograph.

Any Size = No Restriction

Step #7: Standard Size
(Restriction)

At other times, we wish to crop the image to a specific shape or aspect ratio – usually done to accommodate a certain sized picture frame or mat.

Standard Size = Restriction

This is selected using the drop down box beside:

“Aspect Ratio”

Select the desired “standard” size from the drop down menu
Step #8: Finalize Crop

Make a final review of the placement of your crop box .

Finalize your aspect ratio choice.

Click:

[ Apply ]

Note

When the crop is completed, the “After” image will appear cropped.

This step can be “Undone & Redone” as well.

If you are overly aggressive with your cropping – the final print quality may suffer because you have cropped away too many of your pixels.

Final Reminder:
You will receive one last reminder that the changes have been made on a copy of your original – your original image remains unchanged.
The Fixed Photo:
The new edited version of your photo will now appear in your “Photo Well”.

Summary

This lesson dealt with cropping your image to the size and shape desired.
