Fixing Photos

Red Eye Correction

The most important difference between Album Starter & Album Full Version relates to fixing images.

The Starter Version only allows Automatic Fixes.

The Full Version provides Automatic Fixes with the option of Manual Override.

Introduction

This lesson will deal with how to correct for “Red Eye” when it occurs. We will cover how to undo some of your changes when corrections don’t go well.

Step #1: Select a Photo

To fix a photo, you have to select the photo that you want to work on from the “Photo Well”.

This is done by clicking on the photo as shown.

Step #2: Fix

The next step is to use the “Icon Menu” & click on:

[ Fix ]

Step #3: Fix Photo

From the drop down menu, select:

[ Fix Photo ]

Step #4: Prepare The Image

You will now come to the “Fix Screen”.

You should set up the “Before & After Views” and rotate the image if necessary.

You will also have to set the screen up so you can zoom in & out on your image.

This was covered in Lesson #5
Note: Fix Red Eye

Often after images are captured by digital flash photography, we want to get rid of “Red Eye” where a red color appears to come from the pupils of the eyes.

“Red Eye” is a tool that allows us to do this.

Step #5: Fix Red Eye

Select 1st Eye

Step #5a: Auto Fix Only

Depress the button  labeled:

[ Red Eye ]

You are now instructed to place your cursor on any part of the “After” view and drag your cursor across the screen to form a box with moving lines (often called marching ants).

Step #6: Fix Red Eye

Position your Ants

You can move these “Marching Ants” box around on the image

You can resize this box on the image by grabbing any corner of the white box with the left mouse button held down & dragging to the desired size.

As you can see in the panel, we have used the [ Zoom ] slider at the bottom to zoom in on the face.

Then we used the [Scroll Bars] to position the magnified view.

Step #7Fix Red Eye

Apply to 1st Eye

We then positioned the box tight around the left eye.

Finally – to make our correction and remove the “Red Eye” we pressed:

[ Apply ]

Step #8a: Fix Red Eye

Repeat for 2nd Eye

We then positioned the box tight around the other eye.

Finally – to make our correction and remove the “Red Eye” from the other eye, we pressed:

[ Apply ]

Step #9: Fix Red Eye

Finished

The marching ants have disappeared, and both eyes are “Red Eye” free.

You can, of course, “Undo” your red eye correction if necessary.
Final Reminder:
You will receive one last reminder that the changes have been made on a copy of your original – your original image remains unchanged.
The Fixed Photo:
The new edited version of your photo will now appear in your “Photo Well”.

Summary

This lesson dealt with how to correct for “Red Eye”. We also covered how to undo some of your changes when corrections don’t go well.
