Lesson 5

Fixing Photos
Basic Setup

The most important difference between Album Starter & Album Full Version relates to fixing your images.

The Starter Version only allows Automatic Fixes.

The Full Version provides Automatic Fixes with the option of Manual Override.

Introduction

In this lesson we will illustrate how to set things up to repair your images. We will learn how to select images, rotate them if necessary and set up the “Before & After Views”. We will learn how to zoom in and out on various parts of your image.

In the lessons that follow, we will cover the actual repairs.

Step #1: Select a Photo

To fix a photo, you have to select the photo that you want to work on from the “Photo Well”.

This is done by clicking on the photo as shown.

Step #2: Fix

The next step is to use the “Icon Menu” & click on:

[ Fix ]

Step #3: Fix Photo

From the drop down menu, select:

[ Fix Photo ]

Step #4: Confirmation

No Change to Original Photo

You will receive a message that indicates that the changes that you are about to make will occur on a copy of your original, not the original itself.

This is a safety measure so that your original photo remains untouched. Your original will not appear in the “Photo Well”, only the edited version will appear.

Note:

A future Lesson will show you how to get back to your original.

Step #5: The Fix Screen

The “Fix Screen” now appears.

It allows for these corrections:

General:
Fix Lighting
Fix Color
Fix Sharpness

Fix Red Eye

Crop photo to size

Add Filter Effects

Step #6: Before & After

We recommend that you click on the tab at the top that is labeled:

[ Before & After ]

This will allow you to assess each correction to the photo and decide whether the intended correction improves the photo or not.

The left pane will show the photo without any changes.

The right pane will show the cumulative effect of your changes.

Step #7: Rotate Image

We recommend that you rotate the image if it is necessary.

This is done by clicking on one of the icons circled in red below.

The left icon will rotate the image:

To the left
Counter-clockwise

The right icon will rotate the image:

To the right
Clockwise

Step #8: Size of Preview There are two ways of controlling the size of the Preview Panes

Fit To Screen

Zoom  to Actual Pixels

Step #8a: Fit To Screen

The button circled in red, is called the “Fit To Window” button.

It sets your screen so that the Before & After images fit in their entirety. It allows you to see each image completely.

Step #8b: Zoom Out

The button circled in red on the left side is called the “Actual Pixels” button.

It is used with the slider circled in red. This slider is called the “Zoom Slider”.

With this button depressed, you can move the slider horizontally.

Both the “Before & After” images will get smaller in the frame as you slide to the left.

Note:

When you zoom in on the image, you may need to use the scroll bars to position the image appropriately. See Step # 14

Step #8c: Zoom In

The button circled in red on the left side is called the “Actual Pixels” button.

It is used with the slider circled in red. This slider is called the “Zoom Slider”.

With this button depressed, you can move the slider horizontally.

Both the “Before & After” images will get larger in the frame as you slide to the right.
