Lesson 7

Fixing Photos
The Crop

When images are captured by a digital camera, the quality of the image often suffers in the digitalization process.

Introduction

In this lesson we will use Adobe Album Starter to make automated image repairs.
You will learn how to crop your image.

Step #1: Select a Photo

To fix a photo, you have to select the photo that you want to work on from the “Photo Well”.

This is done by clicking on the photo.

A yellow box will appear around the photo to indicate that it has been selected.

Step #2: Select to Fix

The next step is to use the “Icon Menu” & click on:

[ Fix ]

Step #3: Prepare the Image

You will now come to the “Fix Screen”.

You should set up the “Before & After Views” and rotate the image if necessary.

This was covered in the previous lesson 5
Step #4: The Crop Tab

After images are captured by a digital camera, we often want to crop some of the photo so the main subject stands out more effectively .

“Crop” is a tool that will allow you to do this.

Press the button labeled:

[ Crop ]

You will notice a white square show up at the top of your image.

You can move this white box around on the image by dragging it with the left mouse button held down.

You can resize this white box on the image by grabbing any corner of the white box with the left mouse button held down & dragging to the desired size.

Step #5: Special Crop

Some times we wish to crop the image to any shape – whatever we deem makes the best photograph.

Any Size = No Restriction

Other times we wish to crop the image to a specific shape or aspect ratio – usually done to accommodate a certain sized picture frame or mat.

Standard Size = Restriction

This is selected using the drop down box beside:

[ Aspect Ratio ]

Step #6: Apply the Crop

When the crop is completed, the “After” image will appear cropped.

This step can be “Undone” & “Redone” as well.

Note:

The cropped image is smaller than the original – this is a side effect of cropping.

If you are overly aggressive with your cropping – your eventual print quality may suffer.

Step #7: Fixing Fix

At this point you can still use the “Undo” and “Redo” buttons to go back and forth through your fixes.

When you are happy with everything click:

[ OK ]

Step #8: Final Reminder

You will receive one last reminder that changes have been made on a copy of your original – your original image remains unchanged

Click on:

[ OK ]

Step #9: New Edited Photo

The new edited version of your photo will now appear in your “Photo Well”.

Summary

In this lesson we used Adobe Album Starter to make automated image repairs.

We learned how to crop an image.
