Lesson 5

Fixing Photos
Basic Setup

When images are captured by a digital camera, the quality of the image often suffers in the digitalization process.

Introduction

In this lesson we will illustrate how to set things up to repair your images. You will learn how to select images, rotate them if necessary and set up the Before & After Views.

In the lessons that follow, we will cover how to make the actual repairs.

Step #1: Select a Photo

To fix a photo, you have to select the photo that you want to work on from the “Photo Well”.

This is done by clicking on the photo.

A yellow box will appear around to photo to indicate that it has been selected

Step #2: Select to Fix

The next step is to use the “Icon Menu” & click on:

[ Fix ]

Step #3: Not on the Original

You will receive a message indicating that the changes you are about to make will occur on a copy of your original, not on the original itself.

This is a safety measure so your original photo will always remain untouched. Your original will not appear in the “Photo Well”. Only the edited version will appear in the “Photo Well”.

Click on:

[ OK ]

Step #4: Starting

The “Fix” screen will appear.

Step #5: Before & After

We recommend that you click on the tab at the top that is labeled:

[ Before & After ]

This will allow you to assess each correction to the photo and decide whether the intended correction improves the photo.

The left pane will show the photo without any changes.

The right pane will show the cumulative effect of your changes.

Step #6: Rotate

We recommend that you rotate the image if it is necessary.

This is done by clicking on one of the icons circled in red.

The left icon will rotate the image:

To the left or counter-clockwise.

The right icon will rotate the image:

To the right or clockwise.

Step #7: Ready for Action

Our image has now been rotated and we are ready to start our repairs.

Summary

In this lesson we illustrated how to set things up to repair your images. We learned how to select images, rotate them if necessary and set up the Before & After Views.

In the lessons that follow, we will cover how to make the actual repairs.
